The City of Tacoma Fire Department was established on May 29, 1880. In 1889, it became the first paid fire department in the State of Washington. Since then, the department and city have seen tremendous growth. Currently, TFD serves the City of Tacoma, as well as by contract, the cities of Fife and Fircrest, as well as Pierce County Fire District #10. Currently the department has a ISO rating of "2".
