The gateway to understanding and appreciation is through communication. The conversations we have with each other provide the opportunity for insight and education. The stories we read, tell provide historical context for the culture we live in.
It is in our one one on conversations that we can learn about ancestry and culture. American culture is a rich and diverse fabric. Its origins come from other shores and take wing here among the immigrant and slave/captive population. The tragedy here in America is that so much of our rich culture history isn't even part of the cirriculum in our public schools.
American school kids grow up thinking that Rock music was an invention of "white society". Nothing could be further from the truth. Without a true understanding of cultural roots, we miss so much rich heritage that is ours.
So let's begin a conversation about music, art and culture and in that conversation remain civil and polite with each other even though we may not agree on every point, fFwe can have a conversation and remain polite during the course of our discourse, we may all learn something about ourselves and each other.
